GUIDELINES FOR GARDENERS

<< back to the the COMMUNITY GARDEN HOMEPAGE

  • There are common interests in the garden area. While tending to your garden plants, please include the large flower pots, the compost bins, and the garden beds along the pathways, including the stairs on the hill.
  • Please keep your plot and the nearby pathways tended. If you plan to stop using your space, please let the Garden Committee know as soon as possible so that your plot can be re-assigned.
  • The compost bins are for the benefit of all users of the garden, but will not result in good, healthy, compost unless the bins are tended properly. Please read the notice placed on one of these bins and assist in their maintenance.
  • Please remain on site when using water. When finished gardening for the day, please turn off the water and hang up the hose, and remember to take your tools and supplies with you when you leave.
  • A small edging border has been placed to protect the water lines on the lower level. Please respect the borders and do not dig or hoe beyond that edging.
  • At the end of the garden season, all dead plants and non-plant materials (string, wire, wood, metal, plastic, etc.) must be removed and disposed of properly and all gardens left neat and tidy. Ensure your garden is cleaned up by October 15.
  • Pick up litter when you see it, anywhere in the garden area.
  • Please put dead plants into the black compost bins, and top them with soil and water. Any diseased plants and seedy or invasive weeds are to be bagged and put in the trash so as not to contaminate the gardens.
  • Please obtain permission from other gardeners before applying anything to or picking anything from another persons’ plot. Plant tall plants and vines in places where they will not interfere with your neighbours’ plot.
  • Our garden is a family friendly area. Please refrain from smoking or using drugs or alcohol. Report theft, vandalism and odd activities to the Garden Coordinator. Please supervise children and pets in the garden. Use common courtesy and be considerate of your gardening neighbours.
  • Use only clean pesticides/fertilizers in your garden.
  • Report any concerns or conflicts to your Garden Coordinator (garden@myglendale.ca) in a respectful manner. Work to help resolve any disputes in good faith.
