After a catastrophic sewage flood more than two years ago, the Glendale Community Hall is set to reopen in the summer of 2023. Our first major event is the Glendale Stampede Breakfast and we expect hundreds of residents to celebrate the morning of July 15 with us. We will be drawing three lucky raffle prize winners at 11:30 a.m. right after the breakfast.
Community volunteers have helped coordinate this rebuild with significant funding from the City of Calgary and the Province of Alberta. The Glendale Community Association has been fundraising to pay for items that go inside the hall, such as audio-visual and security systems, kitchen appliances and furniture. Our guiding principle has been to create a revitalized space that will be welcoming and accessible for every member of our community.
Our redesigned hall includes a new roof, a new heating and cooling system, new electrical and lighting and a significant upgrade to hall plumbing. It includes an expanded kitchen with large work spaces that can be used as a food and drink service centre for larger functions such as weddings or community parties. Or maybe you and your neighbors want to gather round our rolling kitchen islands for a good old-fashioned kitchen party. How does a wine tasting or pizza night sound? Got better ideas? Great, because the space is yours. We are getting ready to support a wide range of programming that all in the community can benefit from.
There are new touch-free main double doors that open wide for full wheelchair access or to provide a grand entryway for brides and grooms who rent our hall. There is a large flex room off the existing main entrance, updated washrooms, including a fully accessible washroom with child changing facilities.
Your support for the “I Love Glendale” campaign is appreciated more than you could ever know.
Thank you! Please buy a 50/50 raffle ticket, get your community membership at www.myglendale.ca/membership, and join us as a volunteer. Follow the Glendale/Glendale Meadows Community Association on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on community activities. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Community Hall this summer.
