Rink Status
THE RINK is……
CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. Estimated re-opening is AUG 15-ish, and timely completion depends heavily on the weather.
The contractor requires that there is nobody in the rink area during the entirety of this fence upgrade. Read why below.
EXPECTED RINK Re-OPENING IS AUG 15, 2025
Work has started on long needed fence replacement work all around The Rink @ Glendale. It’s an improvement that the GGMCA board has been chasing for a few years.
In 2024, the GGMCA Board acquired funding for this important project, managed selection of a contractor to do the work, and waited to hear when it would start. Suddenly we are starting started.
On July 25, site work started on the complete replacement of the chain ink fence in the rink area, and the community association needs to provide an unused, not in service, closed while repairing rink. Glendale Community Association installed many (10+) hard to miss signs that state CLOSED: NO TRESPASSING! and a QR code to learn more.
Thank you for clicking on the QR code to learn why it’s important to not use The Rink while it’s being upgraded. Your curiosity is applauded.
CLOSED: NO TRESPASSING SIGNS are up for safety, to inform and protect you and your family and friends. Because the process of removing and installation of new chain link fence and frames and everything else involved can include sharp and simply unsafe sharp metal remnants and bits around the site during the construction period.
Here’s the unlikely scenario I (the Court-Coordinator) see happening.
You and your kid decide that “Meh, it looks empty and clear, let’s play…eff the signs”.
You or your kid wipes out inside the rink and slides across some small sharp bits cut off the fence that are near invisible to the naked eye but razor sharp and dangerous. You did your best and didn’t see the danger present but ignored the signs. Yeah, it’s a plausible story, for all involved.
Your kid can’t run good enough yet (kids run like stumbling puppies) and trips face-first into the end of the rolls of chain link. Your kid is disfigured, nice work. Maybe your dog steps on or snoots up some metal slivers while exploring and sniffing around the edges, and it’s $$$$ to have it removed.
Because there could be sharp metal about in the rink, for a two+ week period, GGMCA is serious about you and your kid, friend, spouses, siblings, and pets not being inside the rink while the fencing replacement project is being completed.
Even if you don’t see work being done, the GGMCA does not want you to use the rink at all. There is no authorized or entitled use of the rink until GGMCA considers the project is complete and the site is returned to us so its can be prepared for use by the members of GGMCA, residents of Glendale and their friends.
Please people, like WTH? Really? We get a new photo each day.
The GGMCA Court Coordinator is genuinely curious about what runs through the minds of some people on their decision making process that involves blatantly ignoring signs. Maybe the community association is wasting time and money on protecting community members interests. Community members that dislike the disregard and lack of respect for the facilities, sent us these photos. Send your feedback about this fence replacement and closed rink situation to court-coordinator@myglendale.ca who will share it with the GGMCA Board.
