VOLUNTEER

The Glendale/Glendale Meadows Community Association is a volunteer run organization that is directed by the GGMCA Board of Directors. Our community benefits greatly from your participation as a volunteer. There are over a dozen areas where we need volunteers to be able to help us host an event, or to help us provide a resource or facilities to community members. Volunteer commitments range from helping for a single event on the day, helping plan and execute a community program that runs for a few months, up to serving on the Board and leading projects through the year.

If you have a passion for sports at a community level, we need volunteers that will help maintain a level of community sport programming and facilities management. Hockey and ringette, baseball, pickleball, tennis, tobogganing, figure skating, roller hockey, lacrosse, and disc golf are some of the sports Glendale residents play at the community centre. The GGMCA Board wants to increase usage of the facilities and park space, and volunteers help us do that.

Logistical volunteers are the behind the scenes heroes that help at events to direct people to where they need to be, to help direct traffic for our super popular neighbourhood cleanup day, help work the cash room or chip runner at our annual casino night, be part of Neighbour Day, help on the Santa Toy Drive, host a neighbourhood walk, flip pancakes at the Stampede Breakfast, help with our Winter Sport Day, to name a short list.

We meet on the second Tuesday of the month September through June from 7-9pm at the Glenbrook Community Centre while our community is renovated. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute your professional skills to a worthwhile, non-profit organization, that directly benefits the entire community. If you have a pet project (or peeve), a special committee can be formed to tackle specific projects – allowing residents who cannot commit to a Board of Director position to work on what is important to them. A committee must have one GGMCA Board member sitting on the team. Read more about the board director and member at large roles.

The GGMCA Board is hopeful that you love the community you live in and that you too will also find that Glendale is a unique community worthy of your time to help maintain our collective quality of life.

“Next time you are walking your dog, dropping your kids at school, Scouts or Guides, lacing up your skates, tobogganing, playing ball, or just driving through Glendale, slow down and take a closer look at what really makes our community the best little town in the big city. You do.”

– Paul McCormick, GGMCA Past President
